Free things to do in Wyre
Sometimes it's just nice to get away for the day without having to depart with all our well-earned cash, and with Wyre's vast amount of great open spaces, there's loads you can do across Wyre that won't cost you a penny.

Have a picnic on Cleveleys Promenade
Have you been to see the fantastic promenade at Cleveleys yet? It's the perfect place to spend an afternoon grazing on a tasty picnic as you watch the world go by. There are loads of great picnic benches and seating areas for you to set up camp, and the huge Spanish steps are a great link to the beach below for some seaside foolery!
Play cricket on Fleetwood Beach
When the tide is out at Fleetwood Beach, you'll be spoilt with miles of wide sandy beach to run around on, so why not get the whole family together for a game of cricket? It's great to get out and enjoy the fresh sea air. There's also a fantastic natural play area at Rossall Point where the kids can entertain themselves for hours while you catch breath and enjoy the view. Don't forget the binoculars for some bird spotting.
Day out at Memorial Park, Fleetwood
When the sun is shining, there's no better way to enjoy it than by a day spent relaxing and mucking about in the park. Memorial Park in Fleetwood, with its 13 hectares of municiple parkland, is the perfect place with large fields to open out the picnic rug, tennis courts and bowling greens for a match or two, and beautiful landscaped gardens to take a stroll through.

Walk along the Lancaster Canal
With the towpath stretching over 27 miles, the Lancaster Canal is a wildlife spotters dream. This scenic canal winds its way through the Wyre countryside through pretty villages and towns and is a great way to discover the area. If you do feel like treating yourselves you can always take a trip on the waterbus from Barton Grange Marina.

Birdspotting at Wyre Estuary Country Park
The mud flats of River Wyre's estuary is a bird haven! Bring your binoculars and to see what you can spot. Species such as Mallard, Curlew and Redshank are all regular visitors here. You can also take a walk along the many paths and woodland areas and really enjoy this beautiful country park. Don't forget to pop into the cafe for information on the many free activities that take place throughout the year.

Meet the animals at Old Holly Farm
If you're stuck for something to entertain the children with, then head to Old Holly Farm where they can learn all about farm animals and how to take care of them. You can even see first hand how they milk the cows - a great way for kids to learn where their food comes from. With ponies, goats, pigs, rabbits, chicks and calves the children will love meeting new faces and learning all about life on the farm.

Cycle through the Forest of Bowland
With moorland, forests, winding lanes and steep hills, the Forest of Bowland is a great place to get out on your bike. Cycling is not only a great way to keep fit but also a great way to see lots of Wyre's countryside. Cycle through Wyresdale passing through delightful villages and picturesque open fells as you bike down some wonderful, long downhill runs.
