Picnic Spots in Wyre

Now you've bought your tasty food bits from Wyre's farm shops and markets you need somewhere to eat them. Wyre has some stunning picnic spots along the coast and in the countryside, so pack up your picnic basket and head for the great outdoors.

Some perfect picnic spot ideas...

Fleetwood SandRossall Point is just a little way along the promenade at Fleetwood. Picnic here and you’ll be surrounded by the beautiful sand dunes. Here you can gaze across the water and out at sea at the brilliant birdlife including the resident waders feeding on the shoreline.

At the edge of Morecambe Bay is Lane Ends, a beautiful picnic spot near Pilling with views across the bay north and the Forest of Bowland to the east. It’s a great spot for a picnic with nearby ponds to explore. Look up in autumn for pink-footed geese as they fly from farm fields to the bay.

Karl Child GarstangGarstang is a great place for a picnic. Head down to the riverside for some calm where you can enjoy your picnic while watching the ducks paddling the waters edge. This spot is situated on the Wyre Way, so is great for somewhere to stop and re-fuel.

Millennium Green is a family picnic spot situated between Garstang and Scorton. It’s great for groups and school trips as there’s a purpose built story-telling area to create your own fairytales. If you’re really lucky you may even spot one of the Kingfishers that pass through here along the River Wyre.

One of Wyre’s most popular picnic sites is in Scorton. Right next to the River Wyre there are wooded ponds and wildflower meadows, all great places to roll out the picnic rug. If you want to work up an appetite or burn off those sandwiches you can walk the nearby Scorton Circular Walk or part of the Wyre Way.

Lancaster CanalBrock Picnic Site is not only a lovely spot to sit along the river but also a gateway to ancient woodland. There are many great places for a walk or ride nearby including Beacon Fell, the Forest of Bowland and the Lancaster Canal.

At the edge of stunning moorland is Grizedale Bridge which sits near Oakenclough. Make use of the special sheltered dry stone wall seating area built by local volunteers, and you could be lucky enough to spot one of the wild grouse that live in the area.

Wyre Estuary Country Park has so many fantastic spots for a picnic, but the best ones have to be at Stanah, Coppall Hall and Skippool. All sit along the Wyre Estuary and are great for spotting birds, wildlife and wild flowers. Perfect for exploring the great outdoors.
