International darts returns to Fleetwood

15th February 2012

International darts is set to return to Marine Hall in Fleetwood with the Six Nations International Championships.

Held annually between England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and The Netherlands, the event brings 17 world championship finalists featured on BBC & ESPN in January, from The Lakeside.

The new darts sensation and champion of the world, Holland’s Christian Kist makes his international debut at the event, and will face a mouth-watering encounter with Tony O’Shea, who is aiming for revenge following his defeat in the final. Tony O’Shea is on top form at present after winning the world’s biggest open darts event last weekend - the Dutch Open featuring over 3,500 players. The Dutch Open ladies champion Julie Gore will also feature at the event representing Wales.

Three times world champion Martin Adams leads England who will be defending the title they took from Holland last year in Scotland, with nine times world ladies champion Trina Gulliver hoping to win the title previously taken by Wales.

Many former champions will be on view in this extravaganza of darts as current Winmau World Champions Scott Waites and Lancashire Lisa Ashton, the current ladies world champion, Deta Hedman, world ranked number one and world champion runner-up and world number four Lorraine Farlam, make up a very impressive England ladies team.

Former World Champion John “Boy” Walton features for England with Martin Atkins and Garry Thompson, who recently won the Lancashire Open in Fleetwood, completing the England mens line up. Ross Montgomery leads Scotland, with former world semi-finalist and most capped international player in history, Martin Phillips, leading a very strong Welsh team. Holland comes into the event as one of the favourites with world champion semi-finalist Wesley Harmes, joined by Joey Ten Berg, another world finalist.

The event takes from Friday 24 - Sunday 26 February, starting at 7pm on Friday evening with the ladies' group matches. Saturday starts at 10am with the men's group matches and Sunday sees the finals of both championships. This is a unique opportunity to see and mix with the stars of world darts.

Tickets are priced at £5 per day or £10 for the full weekend and are available from the box office at Marine Hall. Call 01253 887693 or visit www.marinehall.co.uk.
