Wyre Receives Two Clean Beach Awards

11th May 2011

Categories: Latest News

Two of Wyre's beaches have been named among the best in the country.

Jubilee Beach at Cleveleys and Marine Beach at Fleetwood have earned Quality Coast Awards, an annual accolade from Keep Britain Tidy for those stretches of sand that are maintained to the highest of standards.

Both beaches are managed by Wyre Council and bosses are delighted to have won official approval after continued efforts to clean-up Wyre's coastline.

Councillor Pete Murphy, Cabinet member with responsibility for keeping Wyre tidy, said: "We are proud of our beaches in Wyre and these awards underline what we've known for some time - that visitors are offered great facilities alongside a litter-free and safe environment.

"As a council we work hard to ensure this natural resource remains unspoilt and accessible to everyone. We hope the public will help us keep it that way by being responsible every time they visit."

The council hopes to further improve cleanliness of the beach with the introduction of dog control orders on certain stretches later this month.

Altogether eight North West beaches received Quality Coast Awards. Four of these are in Cumbria and two in Morecambe.
