Busy Start to the Season for Wyre’s Theatres

It promises to be a packed out season for Wyre’s two theatre venues this year as Wyre Council announce the line up for spring/summer 2011.

Fleetwood’s Marine Hall and Thornton Little Theatre are playing host to musicals, plays, dance extravaganzas, jazz nights, kid’s activities, festivals and comedy over the coming months as they continue to provide a place for locals and visitors to enjoy the arts.

Michael Ryan, Director of People and Places at Wyre Council comments “We are so lucky to have two great theatres here in Wyre. We are in the fortunate position of being able to offer people of all ages the chance to escape to the magic of the theatre. Both venues put on fantastic shows year round and bring in visitors from far and wide. It’s always a pleasure to spend a night at the theatre and this year’s busy calendar means there’s certainly plenty to see.”

The finest blues and folk musicians are performing at Marine Hall with a monthly line up including internationally renowned jazz guitarist Martin Taylor as well as Martin Simpson, twice voted Musician of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards,

Gervase Phinn comes to town on May 12 bringing his best selling tour of the country to Marine Hall. After touring and selling out theatres across the country for over eight years now as a hilarious raconteur, the best selling and award winning author, radio and TV personality is bringing his live show 'An Evening with Gervase Phinn' and promised to have audiences on the edge of their seats!

Marine Hall is also home to shows and activities for children this summer. Oliver Jeffers, award-winning author of How to Catch a Star and Lost and Found, is bringing an inter-galactic tale about a little boy seeking adventure to Marine Hall in his show ‘The Way Back Home’ on June 5. Add to this Battle of the Bands on July 23 as well as drumming classes, jewellery making and pottery throughout August and there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained.

At Thornton Little Theatre, Today’s Teardrops are also set to perform their fantastic tribute to Roy Orbison and Gene on 27 May and The Houghton Weavers, the UK’s premier comedy and folk group are back on 15 July. Featuring the collective talents of Tony Berry, David Littler and Steve Millington they entertain their audiences with a mixture of songs and humour.

There’s also show stopping performances by the casts of Poulton Drama and the Windmill Players at Thornton Little Theatre as they bring mystery and intrigue to the stage through their much loved productions.
