Tourism Oscars Celebrate the Best of Wyre

The wonders of Wyre have been celebrated at the prestigious Wyre Tourism Awards ceremony held this week in Thornton.

Attractions, accommodation providers, restaurants and other businesses connected to the visitor economy gathered at Thornton Little Theatre for the annual Wyre Tourism Awards.

And it was the rural businesses who swept the board this year, taking home nine of the 13 accolades presented by Donna Hall, Chief Executive of Wyre Council.

The awards, organised by the Wyre Tourism Association, are a celebration of the quality, dedication and achievements throughout Wyre's tourism industry.

With a tough economic climate making it harder to invest, this year's winners have demonstrated innovative ways of boosting trade. Some have diversified, others have concentrated on customer care to ensure repeat bookings and recommendations.

Michael Taylor, Vice Chairman of the Wyre Tourism Association, said: "In Wyre we are lucky to have so many businesses dedicated to going the extra mile to ensure Wyre continues to be seen as a premier tourist destination.

"They are committed to finding new ways of moving forward and awards are aimed at thanking them for their contributions."

The winners were:

- Event of the Year - Fylde Folk Festival

- Excellence in Visitor Facilities - Garstang Country Hotel and Golf Centre
