A brand new ‘natural’ playground has been unveiled at Wyre Estuary Country Park in Thornton.
Made of timber to reflect its natural surroundings, the new equipment includes climbing frames, rope bridges, bucket swings and a tilting roundabout, following a joint project between Wyre Council and the Forestry Commission.
Officially opened last week by the Mayor of Wyre the park also features an outdoor performance area. Youngsters from Stanah School were among the first to try out the new attraction last week and so far it’s going down a storm!
Councillor Lynne Bowen, Cabinet member with responsibility for playgrounds at Wyre Council, said: "Play facilities are the one thing that has been missing from this corner of Thornton and we're delighted by what we've been able to provide for the community.
"Hopefully it will encourage a fresh set of visitors who will take the opportunity to explore the country park further and rediscover just how beautiful it is."
