Wyre Rally Drivers Gearing Up For Big Competition

21st January 2011

Categories: Latest News

Rallying is a real family affair for two councillors from rural Wyre who will be cheering on their relatives at the forthcoming Legend Fires North West Stages Rally 2011.

Simon Bowen from Out Rawcliffe and Richard Robinson from Hambleton will join the 100+ entrants competing in the ultimate motorsport challenge on Fleetwood’s Waterfront this Friday and Saturday (4 & 5 February), which is widely recognised as one of the toughest club rally events on the UK calendar.

Simon is the son of Hambleton and Stalmine with Staynall councillor Lynne Bowen and Richard is the husband of Councillor Julie Robinson who also represents the area.

Both have been keen rallying enthusiasts for many years and formed a winning partnership two years ago.

Simon is the driver with nerves of steel while Richard is the very able navigator as they compete on some of the most challenging and adventurous circuits in the UK.

Together this dynamic duo have competed in many organised rallies in their high performance Subaru, where they have scored personal bests and continue to achieve excellent times and results.

Simon said: "Please come along to support us and enjoy the exciting atmosphere of this exhilarating competition. We are really looking forward to taking part and representing Wyre in this high profile event."

The Mayor of Wyre, Councillor Russell Forsyth, was keen to show his support and wish the boys good luck on behalf of everyone at Wyre with a special pre-event visit to meet them and see the car in all its glory.

Councillor Forsyth said: "We’re delighted to welcome this wonderful event which brings the feel of international rallying to Fleetwood. We wish all the competitors the best of luck as they complete in this thrilling race which is sure to be just as exciting for the spectators."

He was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Councillor Vivien Taylor who will official wave of the drivers on Saturday morning.
