We are proud to confirm that on Friday 22 June 2012, the Olympic Flame will reach Wyre.

Torchbearers will carry the Olympic Flame through Garstang, St Michael's on Wyre, Fleetwood and Cleveleys, who will host a welcome on behalf of their surrounding communities and enable people to share in the excitement at these locations.

Garstang, St Michael's on Wyre, Fleetwood and Cleveleys are four of over 1,000 villages, towns and cities announced by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) through which the Olympic Flame will be carried during the relay, which is presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung. LOCOG has worked closely with representatives from a number of agencies in Wyre to devise the route.

The Olympic Flame will be carried across the UK by 8,000 inspirational torchbearers, each of whom will have a story of personal achievement and/or contribution to the local community.

Councillor Peter Gibson, Leader of Wyre Council said "We are delighted to welcome the Olympic Flame to Wyre and the fact that the torch will pass through four of our towns and villages means that people across the borough will get the chance to see the relay and share in the celebrations.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to shine a light on the people and places of Wyre and for us to come together to mark the countdown to the start of the Games."

Sebastian Coe, Chair of LOCOG said: "We are thrilled to confirm that Garstang, St Michael's on Wyre, Fleetwood and Cleveleys will act as host locations for the Olympic Flame, extending an invitation to people in Wyre to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay during its journey around the UK. This is the UK's moment to shine and I want to encourage people across Wyre to start planning how they can be part of this once in a lifetime opportunity and show their support for the inspirational Torchbearers chosen to carry the Olympic Flame as we count down to the start of the Olympic Games."

The 70 day Olympic Torch Relay, will start at Land's End, Cornwall on the morning of 19 May 2012. On leaving Land's End, the Olympic Flame will travel an estimated 8,000 miles around the UK giving thousands of communities and individuals their moment to shine as the Olympic Flame comes to a place near them.
